We must never assume that a person who believes in one god is believing the true God. His one god may be as false as the many gods believed by other people. Who is the true God? What is He like?
An earthworm can move in only one plane. It cannot appreciate what is meant by length, breadth and height. A bird is a higher creature than the earthworm and can sense the three dimensions. A human being is the highest creature of all and can appreciate a fourth dimension, namely time. In fact, human beings can appreciate the spiritual dimension as well.
We would expect that God, who is the Creator of all things, is far higher than man so that there are things about Him which we cannot fathom with our finite mind. God has to reveal to us what we do not know about Himself.
The Bible reveals to us that there is only one God, and that there are three Persons in the one God – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each Person is completely God, not just part of God. The three Persons exist together at the same time. Yet there is only one God.
We are unable to understand how this can be so, but that does not mean it is not true. Do not accuse Christians of worshipping three Gods, because they do not. Instead, they worship the one God who exists in three Persons.
To reject this doctrine, commonly called the Trinity, is to reject what God has revealed about Himself. That is to reject the only true God.
