Friends have written in to enquire about our safety following news of four churches being attacked with Molotov cocktail (petrol bombs) in the Kuala Lumpur area. It has been reported that cars bearing Christian symbols have been smashed in Bangsar, a township in Kuala Lumpur where young people hang out. The Muslims are agitated over a court ruling which allowed for the use of “Allah” for God in the Malay version of a Roman Catholic weekly.
This morning, a police patrol car came to check on our safety and to inform us to be on our guard. Later, a chief inspector of police called up to assure us that there would be more frequent patrols in our area, and gave us his handphone number and the number of the police station to call in an emergency. My family live in the manse which includes the upper storey and the attic of the building. Brother Yong’s family, who have moved from Miri to Kuala Lumpur, are staying with us while waiting for their own apartment to be ready. We are taking things in stride, trusting in the Lord.
I sent in my article “Should Christians Use ‘Allah’?” to a local newspaper today for publication, believing that it would help the people here concerning the issue. Whether or not it will be published remains to be seen. You may read this article at:

Please pray for peace to prevail, for the gospel to advance, for courage and compassion in the Christians in this trying time.
